Founded in 1904 and dead by 1916, Rhyolite was one of several short lived boom-towns from the late Gold Rush era.
This fascinating boomtown sprung to life after a couple of prospectors discovered high-grade, extremely valuable gold ore in 1905. Several mining camps, including Rhyolite, popped up in the region, which later became known as the Bullfrog Mining District.
rhyolite. / (ˈraɪəˌlaɪt) / noun. a fine-grained igneous rock consisting of quartz, feldspars, and mica or amphibole. It is the volcanic equivalent of granite.
Likely Immediate Result: Damage to Finish/Surface
Another significant reason we recommend against putting opalite in water (man-made or natural) is that it will likely mess up your finish. In most cases when you purchase opalite, the stone looks pretty, smooth, and shiny.
